Administrative history:
Thomas Oxenbridge inherited both Etchingham and Mountfield manors from his mother Elizabeth, the daughter of Thomas Etchingham and wife of Goddard Oxenbridge. Thomas died on 28 March 1540, and on 15 July his widow, his second wife Faith, was living at Hechenden [?Hughenden] in Buckinghamshire
Although he left no land in the parish, Goddard Oxenbridge left 40s to the repairs of Etchingham church in his will of 1530 (TNA PROB 11/24), for a copy of which see ESRO AMS6326/46
Thomas Walsh of Haremare in Etchingham died on 11 February 1540 and was succeeded by his widow Joan, who died in 1559. For a copy of his will, TNA PROB 11/28, see ESRO AMS6326/47
Robert Tyrwhitt of Kettleby in Lincolnshire married Thomas Oxenbridge's daughter Elizabeth, who was aged 11 in 1540, and acquired both the Etchingham and Mountfield estates by the marriage

3 All their woods and underwoods in Sussex to make coal necessary for the iron to be made at the furnace and forge
Rent to be 140 lb of iron for every three hundredweight to be made at the forge, to be paid every week or every month; TG not to cut wood or underwood twice on one..., nor to cut any straight young oaks, not to cut between 1 May and 1 Nov, and to cut the eldest wood first; all sows cast at the furnace to be made into bars at the forge; TG to do repairs, having hedgebote, ploughbote and firebote and the right to dig clay and earth: TG may draw mine on any of RT's land in Sussex.
